How to master the controls in Ski Challenge

Currently the game provides three controls types:

  • Single-thumb
  • Tilt
  • Double-thumb

Single-thumb control is a control type that enables the player to use one thumb to steer and the other thumb to break.

Player steers by moving the steering slider from left to right. Skier then turns in the same direction as the slider is moving. To break, the player can touch the opposite side of the screen with the other thumb.

Advanced settings and their default values:

  • Steering side → player can switch the steering side from left to right

  • Default value set: Left
  • Example: Steering side: Left

  • Steering side: Right

  • Follow Horizontally → player can chose if he/she wants for the steering slider to follow their thumb while swiping horizontally

  • Default value set: OFF
    • Example: Follow Horizontally: ON

  • Follow Thumb → player can chose if he/she wants for the steering slider to appear at the location of the pressed thumb

  • Default value set: ON
    • Example:
    • Follow thumb: ON

  • Follow thumb: OFF

  • Steering Width → player can set the width of the steering slider

  • Default value set: 1.0
  • Vertical Offset → player can set the vertical offset of the steering slider

  • Default value set: 0px
    • Example: Value set: 200px

  • Transparency → player can set the transparency of the steering slider

  • Default value set: 0%
    • Example: Value set: 40%

  • Always Visible → player can set the visibility of the steering slider to always be shown

  • Default value set: OFF
  • Reset → player can reset all of the values to their defaults


Tilt

Tilt control is a control type that enables the player to physically tilt their device to steer and the thumb press to break.

Player steers by tilting the device from left to right. Skier then turns in the same direction as the device is tilted. To break, the player can touch the screen with their thumb.

Advanced settings and their default values:

  • Tilt Sensitivity → player can set the sensitivity of the tilt controls

  • Default value set: 55°
    • Example: if player puts the tilt sensitivity to more than 55° then they will need to tilt the device less to achieve the same steering. (bigger the value, more sensitive the steering, less tilt is needed)
  • Transparency → player can control the transparency of the in game tilt indicator

  • Default value set: 0%
    • Example: Default value of 0%

  • and transparency set to 50%

  • Reset → player can reset all of the values to their defaults


Double-thumb – currently in their beta version

Double-thumb control is a control type that enables the player to use both thumbs to steer and the special pre-set gesture to break.

Player steers by touching the left or the right side of the screen. Skier then turns in the same direction as the side that is currently being pressed. To break in a straight line, the player can touch the screen with both thumb.

Advanced settings and their default values:

  • Breaking Mechanism → player can set their proffered way of breaking mechanism

  • Default value set: Swipe down
    • Example: See the explanation below
  • Sensitivity → player can set the sensitivity for the controls

  • Default value set: 1
    • Example:
      • Value 1 is being used → when I press on either side it takes my skier starts to slowly turn to the left. After 1 second the skier is at maximum turning radius.
      • Value 3 is being used → when I press on either side it takes my skier immediately turns to the maximum turning radius.
  • Reset → player can reset all of the values to their defaults

Breaking while turning

Breaking while turning is a bit different on this type of controls. We have two ways to turn and break as the same time:

  • Swipe down → Swipe down on either side of the screen to break while turning

  • Opposite touch → In turns tap/hold the opposite side of the screen to break while turning
